Roe Street Rail Tunnel Project
Mobile Dewatering
Project Owner: Main Roads WA
Contractor: Leighton Kumagai JV
Project Value: $500m
The Roe Street Rail Tunnel project was awarded to Mobile Dewatering by Leighton Kumagai JV (LKJV) and involved the construction of a receival pit for a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) and rail incline built eight metres below the water table.
The initial project-wide dewatering and recharge well design was done by a dewatering specialist from Singapore and was carried out by LKJV staff.
This original system design did not work.
LKJV then engaged the Mobile Dewatering Group to design and implement a successful dewatering system for the Roe Street works.
MDW worked closely with the contractor’s drillers to redesign and install both dewatering and recharge wells that proved to be a more effective approach. Once installed, the project required ongoing monitoring, servicing and maintenance for a period of 18 months.
The results achieved by MDW exceeded the expectations of LKJV and the project owner.
